Here's a little about me . . .

Here’s a little about me . . .

Growing up, my family and I faced so much racism, classism, trauma, poverty, and homelessness. Internally, I also struggled with my own identity and place in the world as a Multiracial woman. I was focused on getting a good job that was great money and no longer surviving, but thriving. At least that's what I thought thriving was . . . I went off to college to be a construction management engineer. God quickly said - no, yell at full volume - "GIRL!!! this is not what you are supposed to be doing with your life!" And so after much deliberation, I took a leap of faith and ditched engineering and transferred into my institution's Communication Design program. After my first year, I was exposed to how the racism was extreme amongst the curriculum, the professors, and eventually the harassment my peers in my classes I turned to my art. Leading to my final projects that called out each individual class and professor's inherent racism. Because of these projects I was not allowed back into the program and knew that I was made to be a revolutionary, social justice based creator. It was in transferring to Xavier University that I found who I was as an artist and had so many opportunities.
Throughout my life, I've faced so much chaos. However, it all led me to the beautiful opportunities and experiences. This is why kvc studios' motto is "Beauty in Chaos". I've seen first hand how art can change minds, create bridges, inspire, change circumstances, raise awareness, and - call me crazy - change lives! It is this social justice and community based form of art that drives me and my practice as I lead kvc studios. I challenge you all to find the beauty even when things get chaotic.

Peace - kvc
